Flowers for Lucien Smith's Art Supper

Oct 2, 2013

This summer I was lucky to design some floral centerpieces for Lucien Smith's Art Supper, on the roof of the Lever House Building in midtown.  In conjunction with his show "Scrap Metal," the art supper involved a night of cooking, his sculptures and our centerpieces.  Lucien sent over some images of his artwork for the event- propane tanks that he had altered in various ways; I really love the textures and colors of the pieces, and I love that they look uncannily like vases! I love that he transformed these mundane, industrial objects into beautiful, subtle, textural sculptures that look like antiques, discarded and forgotten.  It was a perfect project to combine with florals. I had so much fun designing and executing the project (thanks, Emily!), and thinking about Lucien's pieces and the dinner.   And so....Pokeweed, smokebush, queen anne's lace, scabiosa, blackberries, bee balm-- found, rampant and wild, foraged and edible.
